Extremism Is Not a Form of Government

One more time with feeling, a discussion about the belligerence, denigration, and name-calling that has become so prevalent in U.S. politics. Our politics have become almost a screaming match. I suspect we have all experienced a screaming match in the past, either as participants or observers, and the general response is to want to escape, to get the hell away from the angry parties.

Outcast President

Outcast on a cold star, unable to feel anything but an awful helpless numbness. I look down into the warm, earthy world. Into a nest of lovers' beds, baby cribs, meal tables, all the solid commerce of life in this earth, and feel apart, enclosed in a wall of glass. — Sylvia Plath

War and Peace

War and peace. Two very simple statements. We are very good at war, maybe not so good at peace. Earlier today, I shared a comment and a YouTube video that my children posted on social media. Jeffrey Sachs was lecturing about world peace. My comment when I shared the post stated: “I agree with Sachs, but this message has been around forever. Jesus preached peace, and look what that got him. In the Finlands of the world, how do you deal with the Musk, Bezos, and Trumps of the world?” I'll put a link to that video at the bottom of this blog post.

Republiconomics and Autocracy Explained in One Chart

Tariffs on, off, on, off, and on again. Dismantling critical social services across the board at the federal level, abandoning our alliances and commitments with friends worldwide, and slashing funding of social programs to finance tax breaks for the top wealth holders in the United States.

To Kill or Not Kill in the name of the State

Most of the current thinking about the death penalty in the U.S. is based on Jewish and Christian law, which is based on the writings of several authors over the millennia. Other cultures and religions suffer from this same mental constipation, in my opinion. But for now, I will focus on the good old U.S.of.A.

Rights And Beliefs

That may sound like double-talk, but what we call rights in our democracy comes with a kind of fence around them. Think of a sports field with boundary lines. A penalty is usually attached to an act if you go out of bounds or violate the law. The rights guaranteed by our Constitution are no different.

The more things change...

In addition to the Revolutionary War against England and a monarchy, there was much hand-wringing and debate about how our new nation would be organized in the early days of its founding. There were two basic factions: conservative (loyal to the King) and progressive (wanting to break away from tyranny and establish a democracy).

Constitutional Convention

More and more, I'm thinking we need a new constitutional convention to lead us out of the morass we find ourselves in. A gathering of representatives for all fifty states. Not the elected representatives, who are already contaminated with the bitterness and divisiveness of politics and billions of dollars in contributions that have poisoned our system. I don't see how that could possibly be any different from the pissing contest we have in DC today. This has to be an independent group of people. Constitutional scholars, legal scholars, and ordinary Americans from all walks of life.

Tyranny

It is time for our leaders to come together in a new political party dedicated to excising the cancer of an autocratic tyranny from our democratic and Constitutional form of government. This tyranny has been growing like an invasive weed for at least forty-five years.

Liberty & Choice

While the Democrats seem to be dithering, and the GOP masses seem paralyzed with fear of Trump, Trump, Musk, and his MAGA/P2025 disciples are eliminating the backbone of our democracy, freedom, and choice. Let me indulge in a bit of language definition. I know that's boring, but it helps to frame a discussion.
